Cook Out burger styles explained

Nutrition varies by location

Calories on the nutrition page are transcribed from Cook Out’s public PDF on cookout.com (retrieved August 31, 2026; the file is undated). We do not invent missing items. Confirm calories and allergens in-store. Unofficial tools on this site are planning sketches only.

Quick Answer: Styles change toppings, not the patty. Original is lettuce, tomato, onion, pickle, and mayo. Cook Out Style is chili, slaw, mustard, and onion. Cheddar Style leans melted cheddar and grilled onions. Out West is BBQ, bacon, and cheese. Say the style after the burger name at the speaker.

The board lists burgers with names that mean nothing on a first visit. Styles are topping packages. A Big Double Cook Out Style is still a Big Double — chili and slaw instead of lettuce and mayo.

1. Original Style

Original is the baseline: char-grilled patty, lettuce, tomato, onion, pickle, and mayo on a toasted bun.

If you want to taste the grill without chili or BBQ, start here. We will not invent a calorie number for it.

2. Cook Out Style

This is the signature. Cook Out Style replaces the standard toppings with homemade chili, creamy coleslaw, mustard, and diced onions.

Cool slaw against spicy chili, mustard for tang, onions for crunch. It is messy. Fans order it constantly. That popularity is anecdotal, not a corporate “most ordered” stat we can cite.

Chili and slaw add more toppings than Original. Expect a heavier, wetter burger. Confirm nutrition in-store if you need numbers.

3. Cheddar Style

Cheddar Style swaps in melted cheddar and grilled onions. Simpler than Cook Out Style, richer than a plain cheeseburger.

Sweet grilled onions plus sharp cheddar. A middle path if chili-and-slaw is not your thing.

4. Out West Style

Out West Style is BBQ sauce, bacon, and cheese. Smokier and sweeter than the other styles.

BBQ sauce adds sugar; bacon adds salt and crunch. If you already like Carolina-leaning BBQ, this is the burger that matches it.

5. Side-by-side toppings

Style Typical toppings
OriginalLettuce, tomato, onion, pickle, mayo
Cook Out StyleChili, slaw, mustard, onion
Cheddar StyleCheddar, grilled onions
Out West StyleBBQ sauce, bacon, cheese

Boards vary. Steak Style and other named sets show up at some stores.

6. What styles change (and what we will not claim)

Chili, slaw, bacon, and BBQ sauce add more than lettuce and tomato. Original is the simplest topping set; Cook Out Style is the most loaded of the four above. We do not have a dated official PDF, so we will not publish a calorie swing for each style.

The calorie calculator is an unofficial planner. For honest notes, see nutrition.

7. Custom modifications

Most stores will add bacon, extra cheese, or hold the bun. Some will combine styles if you ask — “Cook Out Style with bacon.” Results vary. Add-on prices are usually small; confirm at the window.

Lettuce, tomato, onion, pickle, and mustard are commonly free extras.
